Apparently, this post is too late to be relevant to most of you! Even though the 20th and 21st were the designated dates, our parish is not collecting for the CCHD until next weekend, the 27th and 28th, so of course, I assumed next weekend was the official weekend. Silly me.

The US Bishops’ Catholic Campaign for Human Development has, apparently, made a bit of an effort to fix some of the problems they have had regarding who was receiving funding from them. Unfortunately, there are still some serious problems, so this year our monies will go elsewhere. Again.
While there are still several problems with this campaign, here is one article from LifeSite News illustrating a problem in Chicago:

CHICAGO, Illinois, November 12, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The national office of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) awarded a grant in 2010 to a Chicago-based group, despite the local CCHD branch’s strong warnings that the organization in question coordinated a school-based health program that provides contraception and refers for abortions. The decision to award the grant was made even as CCHD was faced with calls for a boycott over its funding practices, and in the midst of an effort at reform.
