Back Home Again

We’re back home again.  It is so nice to be back with the other kids!

Here are some thoughts from this weekend.  They are not necessarily in order of importance ~ or in any order at all!  There’s just so much floating around in my brain that I’m just going to let it out as it comes!

The snow was lovely.  I’m glad that it doesn’t snow regularly here in our part of Texas, but it was lovely to see and I particularly enjoyed pelting Chief with snowballs when we stopped along the side of the road so I could change my shoes (stupid clogs!)  He enjoying pelting me as well! 🙂

The hotel looked kind of “dumpy” from the outside but while the inside was a bit dated (read carpet from the 70’s…) , it was very nice.  It was a little weird that there was a casino on the main floor, but it was nice and it was a decent place.

In case anyone wonders… yes, I did gamble.  I only played the penny slots, though as I was not interested in losing a bunch of money!  However, even though I played the cheap machines, I ended up being $70 ahead.  That was fun.  My father-in-law, though, is apparently an expert!  He took home about $2500 over his “investment.”  Wowsa!

We thought we might get snowed in, but everything was clear enough on Sunday morning for us to get to Reno for our flight.

While I missed the youngest 4 kids, it was really nice to hang out with our older boys for some “adult” time.  Gambling, getting drinks and so on was a lot of fun.  It was also nice to have some time away from home with Chief.  Seeing my parents and my father-in-law was great, too!

The little “ceremony” was, ummmm, interesting and SgtSoldierSon seemed to feel the same way.  He made a funny little comment afterward.  I think we’re all looking forward to the convalidation ~ hopefully soon.

The reception was nice and the food was great.

I had forgotten about the dance for the groom and his mother.  He chose “Simple Man”.  This is originally a Lynyrd Skynyrd song, but he played the Shinedown cover.

Here are the lyrics:

Mama told me when I was young

Come sit beside me, my only son

And listen closely to what I say.

And if you do this

It will help you some sunny day.

Take your time… Don’t live too fast,

Troubles will come and they will pass.

Go find a woman and you’ll find love,

And don’t forget son,

There is someone up above.

And be a simple kind of man.

Be something you love and understand.

Be a simple kind of man.

Won’t you do this for me son,

If you can?

Forget your lust for the rich man’s gold

All that you need is in your soul,

And you can do this if you try.

All that I want for you my son,

Is to be satisfied.

Boy, don’t you worry… you’ll find yourself.

Follow you heart and nothing else.

And you can do this if you try.

All I want for you my son,

Is to be satisfied.

He said it fit, except that he is not my only son.

Oh, my goodness!  Mrs.SoldierSon was beautiful.  Her dress was gorgeous.

You know, I mostly held it together Saturday just fine.  I completely lost it in the truck on Sunday on the way to the airport.  No one mentioned that this is hard!

And now, on to the pictures.  I’ll put them up in a gallery and you can look at them one at a time if you like.  They’re a bit out of order because we used 2 different cameras.

I have a lot of video.  I’ll spare you for the most part, but I will be back with one clip that is well worth watching.  I promise! 🙂

I think that I will end it here.  There is so much that I could tell, but I know all you really wanted was the pictures! 🙂

I’m so glad you and Chief were able to make it. What a beautiful wedding. You all looked lovely and your men are all so handsome.

The song “Simple Man” makes me cry when I hear it. I did a montage last year for Sam’s 3rd birthday and that was one of the song’s I used.

How very sweet of your parents and FIL to make it as well.

One question I’m dying to know…what did you wear for footwear? 😉 I know you were a bit worried about it.
