Lovely photos. And you are right. In these cold times a proper fire is a wonderful thing.
We’ve had this smokeless fuel stuff for some time. This last load seems almost fire proof! So in desperation we’ve just invested in a grenedier. Then of course you need some marshmallows 🙂

    • mmmmm. marshmallows!

I had to look up what a grenadier is… very interesting!

Our fireplace is actually a piece of junk that we will be replacing after Chief gets back. It is really poorly designed. We get that *some* smoke will get in the house with a real fire, but this is ridiculous! Every time we light a fire, we enjoy it for a while and then regret it. We don’t light them often.

We really want to custom build our home and not cut the same corners the contractors who build the “McMansions” in the “McNeighborhoods” always seem to cut. Here’s hoping we can find the right land when Chief gets back.
