Christ did not promise an easy life.
Those who desire comforts
have dialed the wrong number.
Rather, he shows us the way to great things,
the good, toward an authentic life.
—POPE BENEDICT XVI,
Address to German Pilgrims, April 25th, 2005.
People listen more willingly
to witnesses than to teachers,
and when people do listen to teachers,
it is because they are witnesses.
It is therefore primarily
by the Church’s conduct,
by living witness
of fidelity to the Lord Jesus,
that the Church will evangelize the world.
This century thirsts for authenticity…
Do you preach what you live?
The world expects from us
simplicity of life,
the spirit of prayer,
obedience,
humility,
detachment
and self-sacrifice.
—POPE PAUL VI,
Evangelization in the Modern World, n. 41, 76
Father, you have given us your Son, Jesus Christ to teach, sanctify and govern your people. You also gave us the gift of your Holy Spirit so that we may forever remain One in your name.
We thank you for our past bishops who have served the Church of Central Texas.
Father, we ask that you look with favor upon those in our church, who will prayerfully select our new bishop. Give them a Spirit of wisdom and counsel that they may discern your will.
We ask in the name of your Son, that you bless our future bishop. Provide him with the gifts he will need to carry on the ministry of Jesus in our diocese.
Grant him the heart of your Son, the heart of the Good Shepherd. Bestow upon him the zeal of St. Paul in preaching the Good News; the humility of St. John Vianney in ministering the sacraments; the compassion of St. Vincent DePaul in serving those most in need; and the wisdom of St. Augustine in teaching the doctrine of our church.
We ask this through the intercession of Mary, our Mother and Model, and our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, patroness of our diocese. Amen.

"We have no reason to despise anyone. A humble man sees only his own faults. It is a sign of little virtue to notice the imperfections of others. A person may be imperfect today who in a little while, recognizing this, may rise to great sanctity."
