That toddler of mine…..
He cracks me up.
Really.
He had a couple of good ones last evening.
First, he’s at the age where he is aware of his elimination. Often he knows in advance…. it’s that pre-training stuff. Last night I had the thought that maybe it would be a good idea to buy him a potty. Not that I think he’s 100% ready, but he’s showing some signs. He pulled his diaper off last night. That’s not terribly unusual, he does that sometimes, but what he did afterward was new! He got a clean (cloth) diaper, put it on the floor, squatted down over it and peed right on it! It was hilarious. It tells me it might be time to try to get him comfortable and familiar with a potty chair even though he is under 2. Our oldest son learned to use the potty at this age. He got it 100% right away, no accidents, so it would not be a complete surprise if the youngest learned early, too.
The other good one was both terribly funny and sadly pitiful at the same time. We were all sitting in the living room watching a movie together. He was wandering around and playing quite nicely when suddenly he comes out of a corner and started screaming, “BUG!!! BUG!!! BUG!!!” He was definitely shaken and scared. We asked him “Where’s the bug,” and he’d start to point and walk in the direction where he was, then run back, upset and we’d ask again. After a couple of times we decided there really must be something there and looked more closely. Ah, yes! We found it. The “bug” was actually a 2 inch toad! (with all the rain we’ve had, the toad population is booming around here!) It was so funny to watch him, and yet it was pitiful, too as he was genuinely afraid of the “bug” and he jumped up into his sister’s arms and then flung himself into mine and just clung so tightly. He was shaking and crying. Big brother captured the toad and we had the baby watch as the “bug” was put outside. Earlier today he was sounding a bit panicked saying, “BUG!! BUG!!” I wonder if we have another visitor?
Life with a toddler is so much fun!

I promise not to “bug” you with another “toadily” bad pun. I don’t want you to croak.
I love toddler stories. Fun times!
Would you believe I’ve been reading your blog since you sent me the addy, but I just now realised I could post a comment.
That boy is so smart! I can just imagine trying to comfort his fear, while trying to stifle your giggles.
Brason being the youngest potty trained at about this age. He got it 100% too.
