A big Happy Birthday to our second-born today!!! As requested I will be making home-made pizza for him today. His dad and I are going to help him with a trip to Corpus Christi with one of his friends. His friend is going to teach him how to surf. Yeah, it’s a little nerve-wracking, but he will love it!

Oh, and a little update on my neighbor. Upon speaking to the birthday boy about this situation, I came to learn that she and her children were in the street, in the dark! No wonder they “scared.” I wasn’t able to speak to her yesterday. I’m glad to know this before I do speak to her, however. I find it more than irritating that she wants my son to meet her expectations for “maturity and responsibility” while she, a married woman with small children thinks that being in the street with them is somehow appropriate. Where’s the little rolly-eye smiley?

The rule…. hmmm. Yes, I think I ought to let you know how that is going. Quite frankly, it’s not going all that well. The problem is not the rule, however. The problem is my will in sticking with it. Part of the problem is a lack of cooperation on the part of the children, too. It is a new week and we’re going to try again! Hopefully this time next week I’ll be able to report some major improvements!

I really miss my oldest son. I really miss him a lot. He’s been deployed for 10 months with 5 months or so to go. I will be so glad when he is redeployed. I am so very proud of him though. I know he is making a positive difference. He is working hard at things that matter. He never complains about his conditions (let’s just say that he doesn’t have all the same amenities that his dad does… and his dad doesn’t have all that much.) He has seen a lot of heartache in his unit, and yet his spirits still seem pretty high most of the time. He makes me so proud. He’s my hero!

I love you, Son!
