Perseverance and Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal

I have just learned a great lesson in persisting in prayer. Out of respect to my son, I will not give too many details on this public blog, but I have been praying for him for over a year about one particular situation.

Many times I became discouraged about it. But I still prayed. There were times when I thought that my prayer was “wrong” and I tried to pray better, but I still prayed. Usually, I came back to the same conclusion, that he had the same need that I initially perceived, and I still prayed.

There were so many times that I lost hope! By nature, I am a hopeful person. By “super-nature” I am a hope-filled person. The Lord has granted me a confidence and hope in him that is beyond my own natural tendencies (which, as I said, are fairly great.) So for me to lose hope, even briefly, shows that this was a big burden.

About 5 or so days ago, I added something to my prayer. I decided that I would pray, as often as I thought of it, the Miraculous Medal prayer:

O, Mary! Conceived without sin
Pray for us who have recourse to Thee!

Immediately after adding this prayer, I started detecting some rumblings regarding the situation. Each day, it seemed to gain some steam. And now, the situation has resolved itself. I learned this morning that the situation I have prayed so long and hard for has changed for the better. Perseverance paid off! So whatever your situation, don’t give up! Keep praying! And get the Blessed Mother, Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal on your side.

Thank you, Lord! Thank you, dear Mother!
