Over the years, “Rosie the Riveter” has become a bit of a feminist icon. She represents the thousands of women who, during World War II, came to the aid of our nation and took the jobs that were previously held by men. These women did a great service to our nation. When we were at war, they did what needed to be done for love of country and love of the men they knew who served.
I can see why feminists like her…. she was a working woman, she did “manly” jobs… and did them well. But I don’t think that only feminists should get to use her.
I like her because I like her strength, her courage, her determination to do whatever needed to be done in order to keep things going on the home front. I need to practice her strength during our deployment, though I will not be riveting warships!
So, Rosie is for me, too. I am taking her “back.” Others can use her to symbolize what they will. I will keep her on my blog to symbolize the strength and determination that is required of me during this time of war while I have men “on the front” and to remind me that I am strong and I can do what is being asked of me.
By God’s grace, of course!
