We did it! We made it to daily Mass today! What a wonderful way to start the day and the week! My goal is to go to daily Mass on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The kids love going. Even the “I’m-too-tired-to-wake-up-before-10” teenager is (sort of) happy to get up for daily Mass
We have the loveliest priest. He is brilliant, compassionate, wise and holy. He offers a beautiful Mass. He is a terrific homilist. He is faithful to the Church. He values obedience. He knows he’s the pastor, the shepherd, and has a real duty to pastor us well. He puts up with the politics of parish life and remains balanced and joyful. We are so very blessed to have him. Please take a moment to join me in thanking God for good, wise, holy priests.
Beginning the day with Mass has made the whole day great. I kept my perspective about things much easier. I was able to remain much more patient that usual. It’s not that I don’t understand that the graces I receive can and will have this affect on me. I do understand that, but to actually live it and to see the difference between this Monday and last Monday is really cool! I know it is so cliché`, but truly I have a hard time switching gears from the weekend to the weekdays. Mondays are just plain hard. Sometimes Mondays last all the way through Wednesday! Today was really great. It wasn’t perfect. I didn’t get everything on my “wish list” of things to do done, but you know, I’m at peace about it. It’s okay. Isn’t that great!?
I finally made up 2 weeks worth of dinner menus and shopped by them. I used to do this a month at a time, but had totally fallen out of that habit. What a nightmare.
This week I will serve:
- Spaghetti and Meatballs
- Brisket, rice and corn
- Goulash Suppe
- BBQ brisket Sandwiches, fries and salad
- Pizza from scratch
Next week I will serve:
- Meatloaf, rice and corn
- Roasted Chicken, mashed potatoes, beans and gravy
- Tacos
- Chicken Pot Pie
- Lasagna
- Parmesan breaded chicken, mashed potatoes and broccoli
- Leftover Night
It’s a fairly small thing, but to have that back under control for the next couple of weeks is a big thrill for me. I’m trying to conserve time, too. Today, when I mix up the meatballs, I will also mix up the meatloaf and freeze it for next week. I am cooking extra brisket to have for lunch sandwiches and for the BBQ brisket sandwiches, I will cook an extra chicken and make extra gravy for the pot pies. This feels like freedom to me!
We have new neighbors up the street. The family has 5 children in it, ages 11 down to 3. It is so nice to have some more kids for my girls to play with. The dad/husband is deployed to Iraq. He only left recently. I think this can be an opportunity for us to serve our neighbors (literally our neighbors!) I hope that we can build good relationships with them.
All in all, it’s been a good day following a good weekend. Time to go and mix those meatballs!
Blessings~
